Characteristic Matching Fit
The figure displayed above shows 'Characteristic Matching Fit' of Metal Piece 'I' and Metal Piece 'II'. The piece 'I' is a part of weapon retained on the handle which was recovered from the so called accused and piece 'II' was found in the search at crime place. The portion (A) perfectly fits in a notch at site (A') and (B') fits in (B). As also, surface area at (C) and (C') show the characteristic match.
It is interesting and nice to know that:
'When any two exhibits show the characteristic matching fit,
then, it is very much certain that they are
part and parcel of the same object.'
'Characteristic Matching Fit' is a totally, non-destructive physical method of examination and speedier. Further, it minimizes the work of examiner, such as, proceeding for finding the chemical composition of the exhibits of interest and looking for more and more physical characteristics.
